  • The challenge

    In early 2019, customers were growing nervous about market volatility, pulling cash out of investment accounts and parking it in traditional banks. But those banks offered little value: low interest rates, clunky interfaces, and opaque terms. We needed a better way to keep clients in the Wealthfront ecosystem while genuinely serving their needs.

  • The solution

    We launched the Wealthfront Cash Account: a high-interest, FDIC-insured alternative to traditional checking or savings. It offered free ATM access, fast transfers, and a refreshingly transparent experience. No fees. No risk. Just smarter money management. And because we weren’t a bank, we had to reinvent how we described everything—from the name itself to the way we explained interest, limits, and transfers.

  • My role

    As content lead from inception, I contributed to product strategy, naming, legal reviews, signup flows, email systems, growth experiments, and help docs. I shaped the voice of the product and scaled content systems across surfaces. I also crossed into product design to help redesign the transactions page and streamline how customers moved money.

Project highlights

  • Internal transfers

    Redesigned the in-app transfer experience to handle the nuances of money movement between Wealthfront accounts, balancing technical constraints, regulatory clarity, and intuitive UX.

  • Email design system

    Audited, rewrote, and restructured content for 200+ transaction emails. Pitched and built a modular design system to harmonize with our more modern marketing emails, scale content formats, and simplify engineering handoff.

  • Growth experiments

    Among other growth experiments, I led a project to encourage smart reallocation of idle cash. Crafted in-app messaging and educational flows to nudge users toward investing while respecting their risk tolerance.

  • Cash Cat Sweepstakes

    Collaborated on a gamified sweepstakes campaign to boost awareness and signups for the Cash Account, blending regulatory language with playful, high-converting copy.

Impact

The Wealthfront Cash Account launched with a bang, scaling to over $1B AUM in just 6 months, driving 40% client growth, and becoming the company’s flagship product. Beyond the metrics, this project transformed our identity from a robo-advisor into a holistic financial platform. It also shaped my path as a multidisciplinary designer with a strong growth instinct.
